Michael Roberts Miniatures

Well it's been a busy year. I've been in the shop getting a lot of the old M. Rbts line up and running.  I am working on the 120mm pieces that I picked up last year and have most of them up to date and on my web site tlbminiatures.com if you are into historical miniatures give it a try.  Here's a couple of the figures I produce now.

older pieces

Found some older pictures of some Reaper kits I did a couple years back.  They are pretty washed out and were some of the first pictures I took with my camera.  If memory serves me right I was using natural sunlight for the light source.

This was a unique dwarf in that he has all these protuberances coming out of his armor.  It was kind of a bear having to highlight shade the whole thing.

The next figure is one of my favorites.  It's hard to detect but there is a note of fear on his face as he presents a letter from the bishop to whomever.  I love the war hammer he carries it is one of the few that is actually believable in scale.

Final one up is a priestess.  These pictures are really bleached out by the sun but thought I would add her anyway.

Grenadier miniatures a break from the hard stuff

Well it's been awhile.  A long while, it's the holiday season and things believe it or not have actually started to calm down.  I have finally had a chance to get into my hobby room and do a little painting.  Nothing exciting since there isn't much time but I dug into the massive mountain of lead I have collected over the years and thought it was time to start slapping some paint on the stuff.

First up is a bunch of old Grenadier miniatures stuff.  These figures are from the monster manuscripts series of boxes.  The first one is the Harpy Queen, I went off on coloring her wings and figuring her as a queen I worked some more regal coloring into the feathers.

The base is one I had laying around the house that I had turned on my mini lathe.  Another hobby for my too little time.

Next up is another of the minis from the box a Naga.  I didn't think too much of this mini until I started to slap some paint on it.  there is a lot of nice character to this kit and when all was said and done it was pleasantly surprising.  Mounted on another scrap base I turned out, my main thrust was to work on the basing elements and develop there.

Third on the list is the Owl bear from the kit and actually this was the first of the three that I worked on and the one that got me back into painting again.  Sorry about the poor quality of the photos they really wash out these kits.  Between the three of them I have really made some good advances in basing technique.  Use a lot of cork and rock from the driveway along with a lot of the dried groundwork that my son sells at local hobby meets.

The Husaria

The Husaria - The winged horsemen of the Poles

The Polish Hussars or Towarzysz husarski, were the main type of cavalry of the first Polish Army, later also introduced into the Army of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, between the 16th and 18th centuries. When this cavalry type was first introduced by the Serbian mercenary horsemen around the year 1500, they served as light cavalry banners; by the second half of the 16th century hussars had been transformed into heavy cavalry. Until the reforms of 1770s the husaria banners or companies were considered the elite of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth cavalry. They were widely regarded as the most powerful cavalry formation in the world. Polish Hussars were undefeated in battle for over 100 years.

They have always been romanticized and with the releases of the busts by Young miniatures there are incredible likenesses to paint.  It's been awhile since I have put paint to a figure but I think I may have found an inspiration to get me back in the saddle again. with a little luck I will keep posting my progress throughout the journey.
